MISSION & CARE MINISTRY
Mission
First Presbyterian Church is a vibrant and welcoming community of faith, deeply rooted in the heart of downtown Lancaster. Our vision is centered around demonstrating the unconditional love of Christ to those around us, especially through meaningful partnerships with local organizations that are experts in meeting the vital and often urgent needs of vulnerable populations in our community. We firmly believe that the love of Christ should be seen in action, not only through words but through tangible support and service. Our commitment to outreach and service is reflected in the various initiatives we undertake, working side-by-side with organizations that provide food, shelter, healthcare, and other critical resources for those in need.
We are currently focusing local mission in the areas of:
Housing insecurity
Food insecurity
Women & vulnerable populations
Education & empowerment of students
Our Mission Partners
This Quarter
Our Mission Partners in the first quarter are nonprofits that support those of our community experiencing food insecurity.
Power Packs, based in Lancaster, provides free ingredients and recipes for weekend meals, as well as pantry staples such as peanut butter and cereal, to low-income students and their families.
Anchor Lancaster, based in First United Methodist Church in downtown Lancaster, provides free, hot breakfasts, showers, laundry services, a day shelter and other services to low-income people.
Rise Against Hunger, based in Raleigh, NC, provides free meals to the needy in 41 foreign countries, including Honduras, where it works with the Lancaster-based Central American Relief Effort (CARE), which has close ties to FPC.
Money raised for Rise Against Hunger via this quarterly offering will go toward the cost of a Rise Against Hunger food-packing event at FPC on Sunday, March 22, following the 10:30 a.m. service.
Care Ministry
In addition to our outward-facing mission, we also place great importance on our inward practice of nurturing and caring for one another. Our Caring Ministry, through the work of the pastors, the board of Deacons and Stephen Ministers, provides support, comfort, and companionship to members of our congregation during times of illness, grief, or other challenges. Whether through prayer, visits, or a listening ear, we are committed to cultivating a community where every member feels valued, loved, and supported.
Loving our neighbors and loving one another are not separate but are integral parts of our identity as a church. Our commitment to these twin pillars of love and service is what defines us and drives everything we do. If this sounds like a place where you could grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and contribute to a community that strives to make a difference, we invite you to get involved. Whether you’re new to the area or have been seeking a church family, we welcome you to reach out and connect with us. Together, we can continue to live out our faith through acts of service, love, and compassion.
